CSBC Campaigns
At the Canadian Safe Boating Council, we’re committed to keeping boaters safe throughout the year. Our campaigns raise awareness about crucial boating safety issues, from lifejacket wear to cold water awareness, safe boating practices, and beyond.
Check out our key campaigns:

Safe Boating Awareness Week
Safe Boating Awareness Week has been a trusted source of boating safety for over 16 million people who recreate on Canadian waters. As the season begins, remember that fewer boaters on the water means less help nearby if trouble strikes. Stay safe, be prepared, and enjoy a fun and responsible boating season.

Lifejacket Wear
Wearing a lifejacket is the simplest way to stay safe while boating. Yet, it remains a leading factor in drowning incidents. Whether you’re fishing, kayaking, or just out for a cruise, wearing a lifejacket can save your life. Make safety a habit. Wear your lifejacket every time you’re on the water.

Cold Water Awareness
Canadian waters are cold for much of the year. The immediate effects of cold-water immersion (as opposed to hypothermia) are becoming better understood, and as awareness grows, so does the acceptance of lifejacket wear. The materials here will help with cold water education and outreach, aiming to get more boaters into lifejackets and reduce needless drownings.

Hooked on Lifejackets
Fishing is one of Canada’s favourite pastimes, but too often, safety takes a back seat to the excitement of the catch. During National Fishing Week, the Canadian Safe Boating Council launches “Hooked on Lifejackets” to promote the lifesaving habit of wearing a lifejacket.
Stay safe on the water—make lifejackets a part of your fishing gear.

Operation Dry Water
Boating and alcohol don’t mix. Nearly 40% of boating incidents involve alcohol, and with the added effects of sun, wind, and waves, impairment happens faster on the water. Operation Dry Water reminds boaters of the risks of boating under the influence and enforces safe, sober boating.

Stretching the Season
Don’t pack away your boat just yet! Fall boating offers breathtaking shoreline views, peaceful anchorages, and great fishing as fish prepare for winter. However, with fewer boaters around, safety and self-sufficiency are key. Prepare for changing weather, colder water temperatures, and potential hazards like low water levels and debris. By taking a few extra precautions, you can safely enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Fall out on the water.
